SKF manufactures two types of double row tapered roller bearings, TDO and TDI, which include many variants and have different functions. According to their design, these bearings can withstand radial heavy loads, axial loads in two directions, and have high rigidity. Double row tapered roller bearings are commonly used in gearboxes, lifting equipment, rolling mills, and mining machinery, such as tunnel boring machines.
Characteristics and advantages
High load bearing capacity
Double row tapered roller bearings can withstand radial and axial heavy loads. The axial load capacity of tapered roller bearings increases with the increase of contact angle α. The size of the contact angle (usually 10 ° to 30 °) is related to the calculation coefficient e (according to the product table): the larger the value of e, the larger the contact angle.
Axial loads in two directions
Conical roller bearings position the shaft in two directions with specific axial clearance or preload.
High stiffness
High stiffness double row tapered roller bearings provide a rigid bearing arrangement.
Low friction
The optimized roller design on the edge and the smoothness of the edge surface can promote the formation of a lubricant film, thereby reducing friction. This also reduces the heat generated by friction and edge wear. In addition, bearings can better maintain pre tension and reduce noise levels during operation.
Extended service life
The convex raceway curve profile of the basic bearing and the logarithmic contact curve profile of the SKF Explorer bearing optimize the load distribution on the contact surface, reduce the stress at the end of the roller, and decrease the sensitivity to misalignment axis offset compared to traditional bearings with direct raceway curves.
Improve operational reliability
The surface smoothness of the contact surface between the roller and the raceway is conducive to the formation of a hydrodynamic lubricating oil film.
Consistency of roller profile and size
The roller manufacturing tolerances and dimensional accuracy integrated into SKF double row tapered roller bearings are extremely precise, to the point where they are almost identical. This achieves optimal load distribution, reduces noise and vibration levels, and enables more precise pre tightening.
